Senior Accountant

Department: Finance
Location: Syracuse, NY

Position Description:

The Senior Accountant, a member of the finance department, is tasked with utilizing accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial data, aid in the creation of financial reports, and uphold adherence to accounting policies and protocols. This encompasses performing general ledger account reconciliations as directed by the AVP of Finance, as well as compiling statistical data featured in the monthly scorecard. Moreover, the Senior Accountant assumes responsibility for generating various cost reports for Nascentia Health and its affiliated entities.

Performance Responsibilities and Standards:

  1. Perform account preparation and reconciliation duties for all system-wide entities, including activities related to month-end close processes.
  2. Aid in the preparation of monthly financial statements and additional financial reports as needed.
  3. Analyze monthly budget versus actual variances to identify and report discrepancies.
  4. Prepare Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, as well as MMCOR cost reporting.
  5. Assess data sources associated with cost report schedules to verify consistency and accuracy.
  6. Gather statistical information essential for the development of monthly Scorecards.
  7. Complete documents necessary for the annual audit as delegated by the AVP of Finance within specified timelines.
  8. Maintain effective communication with the CFO, Executive VP of Finance, and AVP of Finance to ensure timely completion of tasks, and deadlines are met.
  9. Adhere to agency policies and procedures while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and relevant state and federal regulations.
  10. Undertake additional projects and responsibilities within the Finance Department as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Accounting required.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience.
  3. Strong communication and analytical skills.
  4. Organized, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and adaptability.
  5. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to identify potential issues and participate in their resolution.
  6. Strong computer skills with computer systems, Microsoft Office, and various software applications.
  7. Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team and possesses the ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
  8. This role requires you to report in person to the Nascentia Corporate office Monday- Friday 8am-4:30pm.
  9. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk 90% of the day.
  • Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written or verbal communication.
  • Ability to express self verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use telephone and communicate over the phone.
  • Frequently uses a laptop computer to enter orders and obtain product information
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Category III - Employee who rarely has contact with blood and body fluids
